Research

As an independent researcher I have conducted academic as well as commissioned research. My main research interest is the interface between state organised or provided social services and citizens / service users. I have explored this connection previously in various research projects like looking at the importance of social space in the provision of youth work and neighbourhood services, or the impact of New Public Manangement on the provision of Children’s Services in Germany and England.

I have so far predominantly conducted qualitative research based in Germany and England.

I am a member of the Modernisation and Managerialism of Social Work Interest Group based at the University of Warwick and the Social Pedagogy Development Network.

BACKGROUND

I have been awarded a PhD in Applied Social Studies by the University of Warwick. My first degree is in Diplom-Pädagogik (Pedagogy) from Universität Wuppertal, Germany which included courses in Social Pedagogy, Sociology, Psychology, Research Methods and Communication Design.

I am a registered with the GSCC as a social worker and have worked as a children and families social worker for Coventry Social Services and as an adviser and advocate for the Family Rights Group in London. I also have extensive experience in youth work and training and development.
